Service FAQs
What is “Honda Service Pass”?
The new Honda Service Pass complimentary maintenance plan is now being offered for certain eligible Honda models beginning with the 2023 model year. Honda Service Pass covers select factory-scheduled maintenance, as indicated by the vehicle's Maintenance Minder system, performed at a participating Honda dealership for the first two years or 24,000 miles of vehicle life, whichever comes first. Plan includes standard oil and filter changes, tire rotation and multi-point inspections.
How often should I have my Honda serviced?
Performing regular maintenance according to the factory-recommended Maintenance Schedule is the best way to keep your Honda running in optimal condition. Each vehicle has its own maintenance needs, so Honda develops specific maintenance schedules based on model equipment, such as transmission choice or the addition of a towing package. The Maintenance Schedule calculates service needs based on your car’s mileage. It checks engine-operating conditions and helps coordinate oil service dates and other maintenance check-ups.
What kind of oil does my Honda require?
American Honda recommends using Honda Genuine Motor Oil, sold and available at Honda dealers. If Honda Genuine Motor Oil is not used, conventional motor oil of a premium-grade or an ultimate full synthetic blend may be used and must contain the specified viscosity grade indicated in your Owner’s Manual. It must also be labeled with an API Certification Seal, indicating the oil is energy conserving and that it meets the American Petroleum Institute’s (API) latest requirement . Oil additives are not required and not recommended.
How often should I replace the brake pads on my Honda?
Your Honda brake pads should last between 40,000 to 50,000 miles, depending on vehicle, driving style and conditions.
How long will my Honda battery last?
A Honda battery normally lasts 4 to 5 years.
How often should I rotate the tires on my Honda?
Honda recommends rotating tires every 5,000 to 7,000 miles.
How long will my Honda tires last?
Depending on driving habits and road conditions, your Honda tires should last about 50,000-60,000 miles.
Does my Honda need new tires?
You can determine if you need new tires by performing a few visual tests, penny tests, and feel tests that include:
- Insert a penny into the grooves to check tread. If the tread has thinned to the level of the bars or if you can't see Abe's head, it's time for a replacement.
- Drive and see if your Honda’ handling has lost any responsiveness.
- Look for punctures or slashes on your tires.
- Test your tires pressure for quick drops after filling them up.
Why is my "check engine" light on?
The "check engine" light is illuminated when your Honda needs service. However, if the “check engine” light is flashing, your vehicle needs immediate attention.
